CWICNY – Lake Champlain On-Farm Engineering Grant
Thanks to funding from the Lake Champlain Basin Program, farms located in the 5 counties on the New York side of the Lake Champlain Basin are eligible to apply for financial assistance for the engineering of BMPs that will address resource concerns noted in their conservation plan. CWICNY (Champlain Watershed Improvement Coalition of NY) has been awarded this grant on behalf of the 5 Soil and Water Districts on the NY side of Lake Champlain.
Since many expensive Best Management Practices (BMPs) need to be designed by a professional NYS licensed engineer, farmers often wait until grant funding is obtained before taking this step. Unfortunately, this can delay construction by many months leading to delayed implementation and increased costs.
By having completed designs, grant applications may be looked on more favorably and projects will be shovel ready if awarded funding.
This grant requires applicants to be participants in the District’s Agricultural Environmental Management (AEM) program and that the desired BMPs be identified in the farm’s conservation plan.
